Howdy All Very Happy

Thanks so much for all of your thoughts and prayers Cool When Cynthia, Walt, Perry, Scott and Jim Bakos told me of the rescue efforts on my behalf, I wanted to weep with gratitude. Ever since I joined this board, I've felt that I have found a family.

I got home Friday night and enjoyed Walt's fabulous barbeque. I'm looking forward to eating Walt's Q again with y'all under more normal circumstances Laughing Thanks to Cynthia for her daily uplifting visits and snacks and to both Cynthia and Z for the anesthetic beverages. It was also wonderful to see Karin, Perry and Scott and to talk with Jim Bakos and Cy.

I have a tibia fracture (slid feet first into a tree coming down) which was reduced and fixed with a plate and screws. This is my first big fracture and it hurts alot Shocked I was told no weight-bearing for 3-4 weeks, though hopefully the doc will lighten my sentence. There's always the stationary bike Twisted Evil

I have cold injury similar to 2nd degree frostbite on all fingers of my right hand, both knees, and several toes on both feet. My right finger tips are black and the tops of my fingers are blistered -- I call this my gargoyle look. As Cynthia indicated, my rear is also black and blue Embarassed from rolling around on the bunk bed trying to get warm and distract myself from the ankle pain.

I'm writing up the adventure (what I did right, what I did wrong, how I was feeling) but it may take a few days since I can only use my left hand and right thumb Laughing

I cannot say enough good things about Jim Bakos, the RMRU team and the people on this board (thanks again Perry!). How do you adequately thank people who have saved your life? I'll be making a donation to RMRU and assisting them in any way possible once I can walk.

I'm still working on a title. Ellen's not-excellent adventure? A series of unfortunate events? All suggestions are appreciated Laughing

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

I never knew you were twice in the Ironman (or Ironperson), climbed Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua, and ran marathons. Very impressive.

jim,

clearly you have a lot of time on your hands (and a pretty good sense of humor, too).

Ellen, you have a lot of willpower! And a great sense of humor. This board wouldn't be the same without you. Glad to have you back on board.

I replaced the sardines you ate and also put some black licorice and vegetable soup in the shelter. Any popular foods would likely get stolen. And no, they do not require can openers. Very Happy

I guess better is a relative term but I'm glad you're back on the board and on the road to healing.

I felt terribly about your accident since I'd hoped to accompany you on the outing and ended up spending the day with the family (wrong choice for other reasons: we went to the Palm Desert street fair and were the only people there under the age of 75).

Our family had you in our prayers and our kids prayed for you safety. I also felt badly that I thought that crampons would not be needed and had you brought some it may have made a difference.

One thing that happened was I had a very vivid dream about you being rescued and was very disappointed when I woke up and that had not come to pass. I was following along on the board and considering joining some others on the search but by the time I got my kids dropped off at school the word was posted that you'd been found in the summit hut. A dream come true for everyone.

Get well soon because next time you are looking for a partner for an adventure I don't think my wife will allow me to do anything else on that day. She can take the kids to the street fair on her own.

Hal

Good to have you back on the board, Ellen!

When you’re better, I’m going to hold you to your commitment to come and visit RMRU and consider joining the team. The rest of the team is eager to meet you, and hear your heroic tale firsthand.

Perry: Last Wednesday the Sheriff’s Office asked me how we go about restocking the summit hut. When I told them it was already handled, I got a puzzled look, then the reply: “Cool! Less paperwork for us to do…”

Thanks for all you do (all of you)!
