The Riverside County Park & Open Space District is excited to announce a partnership with the Pacific Crest Trail Association in presenting the 2015 Southern California Trail Skills College in Idyllwild the weekend of October 3 & 4. The College is FREE for all participants.
The Southern California Trail Skills College is a place to learn all you ever wanted to know about building and maintaining trails. Choose from a variety of classes, from the fundamentals of trail maintenance to advanced drainage systems. Whether you are new to trail work or a seasoned veteran, we have a class that will enhance your trail maintenance skills. Trail Skills College is free to all participants and camping and meals are provided throughout the weekend. Limited space is available, so sign up early!

WHEN & WHERE IS IT? Idyllwild Park, October 2 - 4, 2015. 54000 Riverside County Playground Road, Idyllwild, CA 92549

WHAT WILL I LEARN? Students in the 2015 Southern California Trail Skills College can select from five two-day course tracks. Each student will participate in one complete track. First-time volunteers are encouraged to register for Track 1.

Track 1: Intro to Trail Maintenance

Track 2: Trail Decommissioning & Sign Installation

Track 3: Rock Retaining Walls

Track 4: Crew Leadership - Managing Volunteers

Track 5: Hand Tool Field Maintenance

HOW DO I REGISTER? Registration for PCTA Trail Skills College is available HERE.

WHAT IS THE FITNESS LEVEL OF THE TRAIL SKILLS COLLEGE? The fitness level will vary depending on the class; however, all participants should be able to hike a minimum of 1-2 miles while carrying personal gear and tools. Because classes provide hands-on learning opportunities, participants should also be prepared to be actively involved in trail maintenance for 6-8 hours per day.

JOIN US FOR A FREE VOLUNTEER MIXER BARBECUE! We are kicking off the weekend by hosting a free Volunteer Mixer BBQ on Friday, Oct. 2nd at 6:00pm in Idyllwild Park. Meet and mingle with other RivCo Park Volunteers and Volunteers with the PCTA. Please RSVP by using this link HERE. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rivco-park ... 8445539104

I'm planning to attend the BBQ (free food). Idyllwild County Park is a beautiful setting. Not sure if my work schedule will allow for the trail building classes at this time but it seems like a fun way to learn more about the PCTA and volunteer opportunities with RIVCO Parks.
