He would likely have died without RMRU rescue -

Strange. While the terrain is rugged, it is directly above Idyllwild. How can you be lost for six days? Would be nice to know where they found him, and if he was disabled.

The article says he was found 3-1/2 miles from the South Ridge Trail. I am guessing that the hiker must have been east of the trail.

It would be interesting to know more about where he was and what happened. The wilderness is not very deep in the San Jacintos. It is essentially a day hiking area.

I don't know how you could be gone six days and not be injured. If you're three miles from the South Ridge Trail, you're either above May Valley or near the PCT. There's a lot of brush there but one could easily extricate themselves and walk out. I'd like to know where he was found. Can't wait for the full report. I doubt they were looking for gold. There's no gold in the San Jacintos unless you're talking about Acapulco Gold.
