Rescue on Skyline

Postby neverwashasbeen » Thu Aug 28, 2014 5:56 pm

A 20 yr old woman was rescued on the Skyline today. She and her party started from the Museum at 5 am, hiked to the 7,000 level and then turned back. About a half mile from the Museum she sustained an injury and was rescued. A more detailed account is on the Palm Springs Mounted Police Facebook page.

Started at 0500 and then turned back. Lucky it didn't turn out worse for that group.

Went up to 7000 feet and then turned around and came down?? On a day when the high was 110??! That's insane. She's lucky to be alive. She wouldn't be, if not for the Palm Springs Mounted Rescue folks. A big shout-out to them.
Q: How many therapists does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change ...

Why not wait up at 7000 feet for help - that's crazy. She was lucky to have made it that far down without getting heat stroke.
There were two rescues on Half Dome on the same day (see Outdoor Related Topics)

I could understand someone coming from the coast not realizing the potential heat hazard of the desert, but Murietta?
